The research center ITENE will be present from 3 to 6 May at the IPACK-IMA trade fair, specialised in the processing and packaging of food and non-food products, which will be held in Milan (Italy).

At stand B80 in Hall 5P of IPACK-IMA, ITENE will show its capabilities for pilot-scale production of packaging developments, including adhesives, inks and packaging materials, in its processing and electronic printing plants. For this purpose, the research centre applies its know-how in technologies such as additive synthesis and the formulation and transformation of packaging materials, which ITENE uses to improve the properties of different packaging applications.

With this pilot scale-up, the industrialisation of the new packaging developments is guaranteed since these plants have conventional equipment of the packaging sector that allows carrying out different processes, such as extrusion, extrusion blow moulding, injection, injection blow moulding, thermoforming, lamination and printing.

In addition, companies will be able to find out at IPACK-IMA about the open call of the BIONANOPOLYS project, which will open at the end of 2022 and to which they can apply to test their developments in bio-based materials with high added value nanoparticles, whether they are additives, raw materials, composites or products for various sectors. This R&D project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, brings together 27 partners from 12 countries under the coordination of ITENE.

ITENE will also present in IPACK-IMA its wide catalogue of tests, which includes more than 500 types based on standardised regulations (ISO, UNE, ASTM, etc.), of which 119 are accredited. ITENE performs testing services on various types of packaging materials and applications and provides support for certification in its laboratories, endorsed by the main certifying bodies (ENAC and ILAC-MRA, ISTA, DIN CERTCO, TUV AUSTRIA and BPI).

These tests include the characterisation of packaging materials, the analysis of their safety for food contact and the evaluation of their compostability and biodegradation. Simulation tests on the transport of loads for distribution are also carried out in order to optimise the packaging system and to avoid product loss as well as tests for the approval of packaging for the transport of dangerous goods.
