On January 24, 2018, the last conference was held in the Committee of the Regions in Brussels. The conference was organized by Mr. Christophe ROUILLON, Mayor of Coulaines and member of the Committee of the Regions and initiated by Kestutis Sadauskas, Director in charge of the circular economy and green growth of the Environment DG of the European Commission. The conference brought together professionals from all over Europe to inform them of the results of the very special project that has focused on measures to increase paper collection separately in the EU, a key element in Europe's transition to a circular economy.

IMPACTPapeRec brought together the entire value chain of paper for the first time in a joint project, with the dual objective of promoting the separate collection of "Paper for Recycling" and to avoid dumping and incineration, particularly in countries with a low recycling rate .

The most important result of this Project and a major part of the conference has been the presentation of the "Manual of Good and Best Practices for the collection of paper and cardboard for recycling." This detailed guide contains information on legislation, standardization and political incentives , but more importantly are the practical tools and concrete steps to follow so that the municipalities can improve the collection of paper and cardboard wherever they are in Europe.

The final conference was followed by two workshops, one specifically addressed to municipalities, companies and citizens of countries that did not participate in the project, and the other to entrepreneurs to promote the future opening of new businesses and encourage the development and implementation of innovative solutions for the collection of paper.

The IMPACTPapeRec project has been funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Program and supports the separate collection of the role of the European Innovation Platform (EIP) on raw materials.

ITENE coordinated the project consortium formed by 19 partners from eight European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Poland, Romania and Spain.

IMPACTPapeRec´s main objetive focused on putting Europe at the forefront of paper collection for recycling (PfR) by providing an innovative and common knowledge platform. The innovative approach of the defined participatory strategy is based on the real participation of the entire paper value chain, including research, industry, policies, standards, municipalities and citizens.
